A few days ago I wrote on a decision by the Hillsborough County (Florida) Public Transportation Commission to ban the operation of non-licensed electric passenger carts. Well, it looks like the carts are back … for now.
The Commission voted yesterday afternoon to deregulate the carts and “ask the Florida Attorney General for an opinion on whether it can regulate” them. The Commission would need to get this legal opinion because it was set up by the Florida Legislature and is, to a large extent, beholden to the Legislature when it comes to decisions on what it can regulate.
It will be interesting to see in which direction this issue turns from here. Hopefully, it will turn more in the direction of less government regulation.
